Reishi, known in China as the mushroom of immortality, is revered for its potential to boost the immune system, promote relaxation, improve sleep, moderate your response to stress.
Although scientific studies are still in their infancy and more research is required for conclusive evidence, here's a list of potential health benefits that Reishi may bring:
1: Immune Support
Numerous studies suggest that Reishi may modulate the immune system [1, 2, 3, ]. A 2019 review of evidence highlighted that Reishi mushrooms may boost the production of immune cells, such as B and T cells. These cells play a vital role in strengthening the body's defences against infections and illnesses. {4]
2: Anti Stress, Anxiety, Depression
Reishi is thought to be an adaptogen, potentially helping the body adapt to stress. Compounds found in Reishi mushrooms have the potential to soothe the nervous system, leading to stress reduction and increased relaxation [5]. Another study suggests that Reishi mushrooms may also help alleviate anxiety and depression [6].
3: Sleep Support
Reishi has long been taken in China to help improve sleep. One recent study has suggested that Reishi may decrease the amount of time to fall asleep and increase total sleep time [7]. Another study suggests that Reishi may increase non-REM sleep and the quality of REM sleep [8].
